Global Youth Protest, Climate and Education

A vibrant collection of essays edited by Jennifer Lauren in collaboration with the Media Discourse Centre, this book is the first to be published in Dr. Stuart Price’s original series Global Dissent (Routledge, 2025)

Through history, the activism of young people has been a potent creative force in mobilizing social movements. However, youth-led civic action has not always translated into meaningful youth participation in political spaces.

In recent years, youth-led activism has become more visible in the global media landscape and in multilateral settings. This book explores the challenges and opportunities emerging from collaborating with youth climate activists on the ground, and how that can inform the transformation of education and a more equitable and locally-led global development agenda.

  • “In a world where I can be anything, I purposefully chose to be a climate activist, not because I want to. We are born into a climate crisis that is the result of multiple forms of systemic injustices and oppression. Activism feels normal because we are a part of a system that is woefully unjust. 'Global Youth, Protest, Climate and Education' shows the real-life stories, struggles, and joy of young climate warriors and underscores the urgent need for concerted action. A must-read for anyone who wants to be an ally and understand the heart and soul of the global youth climate movement. Thank you for writing this.”
